Skills

After finishing the first year of the Digital Art and Technology, I have gained knowledge and confidence in using the following software; Macromedia Dreamweaver, Macromedia Flash, Macromedia Director and Adobe Image Ready. Using these programmes, I have learnt how to design and create simple animations, create vector graphics and design page layouts, as well as producing CD-ROMs/DVDs. I have used Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere to transfer, edit and manipulate digital video footage. I have learnt to produce dynamic databases using Microsoft Visual Basic, Microsoft Access and ASP.

An example of a group project from the first year was a Director project, based on a VJ performance we had previously made, which was designed to show how hardly any one reads instructions for programs. The project contained QuickTime video, QuickTime VRs, some basic Director coding. It was my role to make the VRs and the read me file, which were crucial for the project working. On being marked, it was credited for its ideas and innovative design.

In the second year, I’ve been taught Java in one of the core modules, and worked with some artificial intelligence in Macromedia Director.

Throughout the second year, I worked on a solo project which looked at how people interact with other people online, and though they know of dangers of being online, may not realise that all that they are told is true, isn’t true and how even credit card companies and even the Government, can be conned online. I used a chat bot on my website, and designed a page to look like an internet chat room, so that people believed they were chatting to a real person.

I was involved in helping to set up an internet broadcast university radio station, from August 2004 until January 2005. Unfortunately, due to a lack of funding and equipment, we were unable to continue. My role was head of programming which meant I scheduled each show and held regular meetings with the presenters/DJs to check that they were coping, as well as making sure that the station is diverse in its programming.
Work Experience

July 2006 - Torbay Pilot Project, Brixham Community College - Teacher's Assistant

Summer 2003 – Excel, Paignton, Devon – Four weeks W/E – Factory work
Interests

I enjoy a mixture of listening to music, watching films, reading factual and fictional literature and playing computer games.

I have designed using Photoshop, CD artwork for a few friends’ bands, and helped design their HTML websites, with a few downloads. As mentioned before, I was working on the university radio station as head of programming, but also as a DJ playing indie and rock music.

I enjoy photography, for which I have a small gallery on my website. I take my digital camera everywhere I go, just incase I see something of interest.

I am currently working on an upgraded version of my final year project, a virtual tour of Paignton, which joins together my passion for photography, interest in local history and coding.
